The Hallé last year announced that Kahchun Wong will become its Principal Conductor and Artistic Advisor from September. He will replace Sir Mark Elder who will become Conductor Emeritus after twenty-four transformative years which have left the Hallé enriched, revered and the envy of the musical world.

This month, Wong conducts the orchestra in one of their innovative ‘rush hour’ performances. Taking place in one of Europe’s most acclaimed concert venues, The Bridgewater Hall, these early evening, hour-long concerts offer the opportunity to experience the full forces of the Hallé live on stage. Spend a breath-taking hour with the Hallé and experience world-class artists performing a wide variety of classical music in a truly stunning venue.

Characterised by The Guardian as ‘This Singapore-born ball of energy and charm’, Wong returns to conduct Fauré’s contemplative Requiem. Compared to other 19th century Requiems, like those by Berlioz and Verdi where the terrors of a Last Judgement are vividly apparent, Fauré’s vision was of solace and hope beyond the grave, which he viewed as ‘a happy deliverance, an aspiration towards happiness above.’ A much-loved work of British choirs and audiences, its glories include the Sanctus, with its violin solo offering celestial balm; the tender beauty of the soprano solo’s Pie Jesu; and the rippling accompaniment of In Paradisum, sublimely evoking a sense of heavenly peace.

Student tickets only £6.
