QIAGEN serves more than 500,000 customers around the globe, all seeking answers from DNA, RNA and proteins. They deliver Sample to Insight solutions for molecular testing. Today, Citylabs 2.0 is home to their Global Centre of Excellence for Precision Medicine where they have a 100% let of the site. They are committed to creating over 800 high value new jobs in Manchester and add £150m additional GVA.

QIAGEN has been part of Bruntwood SciTech’s Oxford Road Corridor portfolio since 2009, originally at Manchester Science Park where they grew to 270 employees. In 2018, as part of the Government’s Life Sciences Industrial Strategy, QIAGEN was announced as the first commercial sector deal; to establish a partnership with Bruntwood SciTech, Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (MFT) and the University of Manchester to create a world-leading genomics and health innovation hub at Citylabs, completing a £35m, 15-year lease, the largest FDI deal in Manchester for the year.

QIAGEN selected the Oxford Road Corridor location due to direct access to talent and research at the University of Manchester – where they have now set up placement year in industry opportunities  for undergraduates, and to the NHS, setting up an MOU with MFT in July 2022.

They also benefit from collaboration opportunities with other businesses on the campus to fuel their growth; during the pandemic they partnered with fellow customer Affinity.

Biomarker Solutions and the University of Manchester to support patient testing on high-throughput automation platforms; enabling labs to perform both continuous PCR tests whilst new commercial tests at the same time.
