ShitKid plays Manchester for the first time this September, bringing Åsa Söderqvist’s uncompromising DIY project to The Deaf Institute for a long-awaited city debut.
Emerging from Gothenburg’s underground in 2016, ShitKid quickly built a cult reputation on raw, lo-fi garage punk that blurred bratty pop hooks with jagged, instinctive songwriting. Across a run of fiercely independent releases, Söderqvist carved out a singular identity — restless, unpredictable, and deliberately unpolished, moving freely between punk bite and scrappy melodic invention.
Following a couple of quieter years, she now reopens the catalogue through The Essential (Vol 1), a collection that distils some of the most immediate, guitar-driven moments from ShitKid’s output. Rather than a reinvention, it functions as a re-entry point: a reminder of the chaotic energy and DIY spirit that first carried the music from bedroom recordings to international stages.
