Manchester’s award-winning Whitworth Art Gallery, famous for its wallpaper and acclaimed exhibitions of contemporary art, also has a cafe of equally high quality.
Peter Booth, also known as the Modern Caterer, masterminds the food in the spacious dining area overlooking Whitworth Park and the Art Garden. The menu at the Whitworth Café is always seasonal, changing with the world’s rhythms, and covers everything from breakfast to evening meals. Everything is ethically and locally sourced, so this is a great place to sample what the North West’s best farms, bakeries and food producers have to offer.
Popular classics include granola made to Peter Booth’s own recipe and the organic bread provided by Manchester bakers Trove, while lunches come in the form of generous salads. Guests booked in for afternoon tea will be showered with a vast range of high-quality cakes, including the must-try famous brownies.
The Whitworth Café is open seven days a week and makes an excellent getaway for those working locally as well as a perfect place to kick back for out-of-town visitors looking to soak up some of the Oxford Road Corridor culture.
