The Dancehouse

The Dancehouse on Oxford Road, is home to The Northern Ballet School, an internationally recognised centre of excellence for students of ballet.  In 1990 the School took an old 1930s cinema and transformed it into a modern ballet school and created a new performing arts venue for the city.

Opened by Princess Margaret in 1994, The Dancehouse is a hidden gem.  The Grade II listed building with Art Deco interiors not only offers high-quality facilities for the ballet students but also hosts a wide range of comedy, dance, live music and cinema events.  Its 430-seat public theatre can be configured to suit anything from small intimate performances to big concerts with additional balcony seating,  and is popular with visiting performers, who enjoy playing on the large sprung floor stage, one of the best Manchester has to offer.
