Red Chilli is one of Oxford Road’s more refined and highly recommended restaurants, tucked away next to Manchester Royal Infirmary. Less razzle-dazzle than many of the corridor’s glitzier attractions, Red Chilli is one for those in the know, especially those looking for a more traditional sit-down meal. Step inside, soak up the sophisticated ambience and prepare to tuck into both Beijing and Szechuan cuisine, two of the key varieties of real Chinese cooking.
From the Beijing side, we recommend the Stir Fried Soft Shell Crab, for a gloriously flavour-packed seafood experience. From the Szechuan side, there’s the Spicy Hot Poached Beef, cooked in authentic chilli oil to deliver a slow-burning delight. There are many more high-quality dishes from either side, allowing you to build the multi-course banquet of your choice.
Red Chilli is especially famed for its dim sum dumplings. There’s a staggering variety, from Xiaolongbao (Steamed Juicy Minced Pork Dumplings) to Guà Bao, Braised Pork Belly in a soft steamed Bun. Try one, try them all.
There’s also an opulent VIP room upstairs, complete with luxurious carpeting and ornate sculptures, perfect for work events and student graduations. If you really want to push the boat out, treat your work or family group to a several-course Chinese banquet. For this kind of event, it’s hard to think of anywhere better in Manchester – the food is great and the service quick and efficient.
