Modal Gallery at School of Digitial Arts

Modal Gallery is the place to experience cutting-edge, immersive digital artwork using the latest technologies from local and international artists.

Based in Manchester Metropolitan University’s School of Digital Arts at Manchester (SODA), Modal is the latest exhibition space in the Oxford Road Corridor. A new digital gallery, Modal will showcase artists working at the forefront of creative technology.

The gallery will feature three major exhibitions featuring cutting-edge, immersive digital artwork using the latest technologies by local and international artists. Alongside its exhibition programme, the gallery will have a regular programme of rich and provocative talks, conferences and performances.

The space is headed up by Toby Heys and curated by Valentino Catricalà, they will also be able to call upon an impressive Curatorial Committee which draws international talent from organisations as diverse as New York’s Museum of Modern Art, KW Berlin, Serpentine Gallery and CERN, the European Organisation for Nuclear Research.

Modal combines a dynamic production centre with multiple styles of exhibition space to facilitate innovative work in traditional and emerging art forms. Exhibiting artists will be supported by advanced labs for extended reality, video making, sound art and design, motion capture and more.

Modal is located within the SODA – a £35M investment at Manchester School of Art that will drive the next generation of creative practitioners studying at the intersection of storytelling, technology and innovation.
