STACK

In 2023, Bruntwood announced plans for the closure of Hatch, the award-winning retail and leisure space on the Oxford Road, paving the way for the transformation of the scheme with leading leisure developer, STACK.

A joint planning application for the redevelopment of the site is in progress and will see Hatch become STACK creating a permanent offering with a larger footprint, providing more opportunities for traders in the city.

STACK is one of the UK’s fastest growing leisure chains, with experience of creating leisure hubs out of shipping containers as well as repurposing empty retail properties.

The formula of bringing together a mix of street food and bars set around a central plaza, with a stage and giant screen for providing a full programme of live entertainment, has proved a winning one for the company, which prides itself on becoming part of the local community.

Originally launched in Newcastle and with a successful site at Seaburn, Sunderland, the company is currently developing STACKs in Durham, Whitley Bay, Bishop Auckland, Middlesbrough, Lincoln, Northampton, and Carlisle, along with a new Tyneside home.
