As part of Sandbox, her new exhibition and residency at SODA, artist and creative technologist Jazmin Morris is joined by narrative designer and writer Michelle Collier for an in-depth in-conversation exploring alternate storytelling, Sci-Fi/fantasy narratives, immersive worldbuilding, and representation in the gaming industry.

Rooted in speculative thinking and radical imagination, this event draws on shared interests in interactive storytelling and challenges to conventional narrative forms. Together, Morris and Collier will reflect on their creative practices and discuss how digital spaces can be reimagined to centre inclusion, resistance, and collective futures.

Michelle Collier is a Manchester-based freelance writer, narrative designer, and interactive storyteller. With over 15 years’ experience across animation, games and immersive experiences, she has collaborated with award-winning teams on projects including the BBC’s first-ever augmented reality app. A Channel 4 New Writer for 2024/25 and a BAFTA Connect member, Michelle brings a bold, collaborative approach to character-led and audience-centred storytelling.

This in-conversation is part of Sandbox, Jazmin Morris’ wide-ranging exhibition and programme of talks, workshops and playful interventions, developed in collaboration with Rekindle School. Through carefully curated media, open-access archives and worldbuilding labs, Sandbox asks what kinds of digital spaces—and futures—we can build together.
