Victorian Women in Bed presents six short plays written by Janet Goddard. Six eminent Victorian women, including Florence Nightingale and Charlotte Bronte, snuggle down in bed to tell their stories and explain how they have defied the conventions of the nineteenth century to find their authentic selves.
‘What is a bed for but to die in?’ asks angry, dead Emily Bronte.
The Young Queen Victoria, Elizabeth Barrett Browning, Charlotte Bronte, Florence Nightingale and Emma Hardy, with the help of family and acquaintances, show themselves to us through their bed tales.
Join Elizabeth Gaskell’s House for a pre-Christmas treat to discover what has drawn our women to their beds and share their secrets …
