The Jayhawks celebrate four decades of influential songwriting and unmistakable harmonies with their 40th anniversary tour, arriving at Manchester Academy this September.
Formed in Minneapolis in the 1980s, The Jayhawks became one of the defining bands of the Americana movement, blending country, folk, rock and rich vocal arrangements into a sound that has inspired generations of artists. Over the course of almost 40 years, the band have released 11 albums and built a reputation for timeless songs and captivating live performances.
Their acclaimed run of albums includes Hollywood Town Hall (1992), Tomorrow the Green Grass (1995) — featuring the beloved alternative hit Blue — alongside later favourites including Sound of Lies, Rainy Day Music and XOXO. Led by Gary Louris alongside longtime members Marc Perlman, Karen Grotberg and Tim O’Reagan, The Jayhawks continue to evolve while staying true to the harmonies and storytelling that defined their sound.
Celebrating 40 years since their formation, this anniversary tour offers the chance to experience one of Americana’s most enduring acts live, with a set spanning their celebrated catalogue and the songs that have made The Jayhawks a true American treasure.
