World-renowned composer and conductor John Adams returns to The Bridgewater Hall for an unmissable evening with the Hallé Orchestra, revisiting key works from his remarkable career.
The programme opens with Slonimsky’s Earbox, a vibrant tribute to music theorist Nicolas Slonimsky, first premiered at The Bridgewater Hall by the Hallé in 1996. Soprano Mary Bevan takes centre stage in Le Livre de Baudelaire, Adams’ radiant orchestration of Debussy’s poetic song cycle, and again in This is Prophetic!, an aria from his groundbreaking opera Nixon in China.
The evening culminates in Harmonium, Adams’ majestic choral symphony, performed with the Hallé Choir—a sweeping, immersive composition that blends poetry and minimalism in a transcendent soundworld.
This is a rare opportunity to experience Adams conducting his own music, including iconic and lesser-heard works, in a space he shares a rich history with. A highlight of the season, not to be missed.
