Legendary techno DJ and producer Jeff Mills, aka ‘The Wizard’, comes to The Bridgewater Hall this December for a unique performance of his show Light From The Outside World alongside the Hallé Orchestra and conductor Christophe Mangou. The event, which forms part of the Hallé’s new The Hallé Presents series, will collapse the constraints of both the techno and symphonic worlds, of nightclub and concert hall.
This unique performance will feature Jeff Mills’ compositions such as ‘The Bells’, ‘Gamma Player’, ‘Amazon’, ‘Imagine’, ‘Flying Machines’, ‘The Art of Barrier Breaking’, ‘Eclipse’, ‘Medium’, ‘The Man Who Wanted Stars and Daylight’ which have been reworked to be performed with a full symphony orchestra.
Jeff Mills is considered one of the most accomplished and celebrated DJs and producers in the world and is well-known as a pioneer and innovator of the Roland TR-909 drum machine. He lit up the Detroit airwaves back in the ‘80s as ‘The Wizard’ playing techno, electro, new wave and house and later turned to production, setting up Underground Resistance, then Axis Records in the 1990s.
Jeff Mills said of the event: “I am thrilled to be working with the Hallé and bringing ‘Light from the Outside World’ to Manchester audiences. Combining orchestral and techno soundscapes is a passion and I am thoroughly looking forward to performing my compositions with such a world-renowned orchestra in a vibrant and cosmopolitan city.”
The Hallé Presents is a new series of contemporary music at The Bridgewater Hall curated and performed by Manchester’s symphony orchestra with very special guests. Music that breaks boundaries and sees the orchestra in a different light. The next concerts in the series feature Nitin Sawhney and a weekend dedicated to the music of Steve Reich.
