The Charlatans return to Manchester Academy for what promises to be a landmark night, celebrating a new chapter in their storied three-decade career.
With a brand new album We Are Love set to drop on Halloween—produced by Blood Orange’s Dev Hynes, alongside Fred MacPherson and the legendary Stephen Street—the Madchester icons are back in bold, genre-blending form.
Since bursting onto the scene in 1990 with The Only One I Know, The Charlatans have remained one of the UK’s most beloved and resilient bands. Their discography spans psychedelic indie, soulful grooves, and Britpop swagger—three UK Number 1 albums, twenty-one Top 40 singles, and countless iconic moments on stage and record. Tim Burgess and the band have been ever-present on the festival circuit, from Glastonbury to Isle of Wight, and have shared stages with the likes of Liam Gallagher and Gerry Cinnamon.
Their live shows are a fan’s dream: loaded with instantly recognisable anthems like One to Another, North Country Boy, How High and Weirdo, and charged with the energy of a group still evolving, not coasting. Their last record, Different Days (2017), was hailed by The Guardian as their best in two decades, and with We Are Love on the horizon, anticipation is sky-high for what’s next.
After a co-headline US tour with Ride and Tim Burgess receiving the inaugural Northern Music Award, The Charlatans are riding a new wave of creativity and appreciation. This tour stop is more than just a gig—it’s a celebration of legacy, reinvention, and some of the greatest British songwriting of the last 30 years.
