Stephen Hough is one of the most distinctive artists of his generation. An RNCM alumnus who was knighted in the Queen’s Birthday Honours, he enjoys an illustrious career as a pianist, composer and writer.

This season, we’re thrilled to welcome Stephen back to his alma mater as an Artist-in-Residence. Through workshops, teaching and performance, Stephen will work closely with our students during our anniversary year, giving them invaluable insight into his career as a leading UK musician.

In the first event of his residency, Stephen joins us for an exciting exploration of his works for voice and piano with students from RNCM School of Vocal Studies and Opera.

His thoughtful settings of Rilke’s texts in Herbstlieder cleverly traverse themes of death and decay while he openly challenges conventional norms of love in Other Love Songs, his 21st-century companion piece to Brahms’ Liebeslieder Waltzer. With Stephen at the piano, join us and discover his original music with the next generation of musicians in this intimate performance.
