Blackwell’s Manchester hosts an evening with Stephen Galbraith in conversation with Nicholas Royle to celebrate the publication of his debut crime novel The Wythenshawe Dandy.
Set between South Manchester and Sheffield, this Northern noir opens with a chilling discovery: a young woman’s body found carefully arranged in an empty flat. Detective Inspector Cassie May is drawn into a complex and increasingly personal investigation when the flat’s owner—her new partner, James Flynn—is accused of murder. As she pushes deeper into the case, Cassie finds herself caught between professional duty and personal loyalty, uncovering a web of buried secrets, criminal networks and institutional pressure that threatens to derail both her career and her life.
Spanning affluent suburbs, deprived estates and the stark Pennine landscape between them, the novel explores the uneasy proximity of privilege and hardship, and the truths hidden beneath both.
Stephen Galbraith, originally from South Manchester and now based in Sheffield, brings his experience in business and creative writing to this atmospheric and tightly plotted debut. He will discuss the book in conversation with author Nicholas Royle.
Doors open at 6.30pm, with the event beginning at 6.45pm. Tickets are £5, with a £14 book and ticket option available.
