Skullcrusher brings her intimate, atmospheric live show to YES this summer as part of a tour supporting last year’s album And Your Song is Like a Circle.
The project of New York-based artist Helen Ballentine, Skullcrusher sits at the intersection of indie folk, ambient and experimental sound design. Across her recordings, she builds fragile, immersive pieces shaped by piano, guitar and layered vocal textures, often drifting between minimal arrangements and more expansive, abstract soundscapes.
Her recent work continues a gradual shift away from early, stripped-back songwriting towards more open and textured production, exploring themes of memory, absence and emotional dislocation. Rather than conventional structure, her songs often feel loose and exploratory, built from fragments that emerge and dissolve.
That sense of instability carries through into her live performances, where quiet, delicate passages can give way to washes of reverb, drone and electronic texture. The result is a set that feels immersive and unsteady in equal measure—always shifting, never fixed.
Skullcrusher’s current tour follows the release of And Your Song is Like a Circle, an album that expands her sound into more fluid, shape-shifting territory while retaining the emotional focus at its core.
