RNCM Big Band with Liane Carroll and Josephine Davies
Royal Northern College of Music
17th December 2021
The RNCM Big Band Autumn show features two guests who are inspirational, leading figures in the UK jazz scene. Liane Carroll has been described by The Times as ‘deeply soulful, and wonder-fully honest’. She has worked with an incredible array of artists – from Sir Paul McCartney to Gerry Rafferty to Ladysmith Black Mambazo. Liane recorded a BBC Concert Orchestra Big Band special earlier this year, with arrangements prepared uniquely for her by Malcolm Edmonstone – and it’s these charts you’ll hear tonight.
Joining her is Josephine Davies (Jazz Instrumentalist of the Year, 2019 Parliamentary Jazz Awards). A triple threat – composer, saxophonist and conductor – Josephine has been pushing the boundaries of jazz with projects such as Satori, a sax/bass/drums trio with an emphasis on extended and collaborative improvisation.
All under the baton of director Steve Berry, this is the first public RNCM Big Band show since Autumn 2019.
