Manchester Metropolitan University hosts a hybrid seminar exploring linguistic justice, anti-Black linguistic racism and educational transformation.

Featuring Dr April Baker-Bell (University of Michigan) and Dr Davena Jackson (Boston University), the event will examine how educators can challenge discriminatory language practices and create more inclusive, humanising learning environments for Black students.

Dr Baker-Bell will discuss the concept of Linguistic Justice Freedom Schools and their role in challenging anti-Black linguistic racism, while Dr Jackson will explore justice-oriented approaches to teaching and curriculum design that centre Black students’ experiences and futures.

The seminar takes place in Room GM222, Geoffrey Manton Building, and can also be attended online.
