Research & Policy: A day of cross-cutting dialogue brings together international business experts, policymakers, business leaders and investment agencies to explore how global economic change is reshaping trade, investment and regional competitiveness.

Part of the Academy of International Business (AIB) Congress 2026, this flagship one-day event examines how geopolitical shifts, technological disruption, sustainability pressures and evolving trade patterns are transforming the landscape for international business.

The session considers what these changes mean for economic growth, inward investment, innovation and business strategy in an increasingly uncertain global economy. Through expert-led discussion and practical insight, it explores the drivers behind investment and location decisions, the role of policy in shaping global markets, and how organisations can position themselves for long-term success.

Speakers include representatives from the World Bank, UN Trade and Development (UNCTAD), Invest Manchester, alongside leading academic experts.

The event forms part of AIB Manchester 2026, which brings together more than 1,500 global delegates across the city, offering access to a major international community of academics, policymakers and business leaders.

Manchester Metropolitan University’s International Business Knowledge Platform connects research expertise with policy and practice across investment, strategy, supply chains, sustainability and global risk.
