Participants are invited to stand up for nature, joining a day of free artist-led city walks, nature-aware gatherings, and opportunities to share their cherished aspects of the natural world.

In 2015, artist Gustav Metzger urged art schools and students across all disciplines to “Remember Nature” and to “make a stand against the ongoing erasure of species.” Tuesday 4 November 2025 marks a decade since that call, and partners across England will unite for Remember Nature 2025, bringing ethics into aesthetics through a nationwide programme of events.

Castlefield Gallery is one of 17 regional arts partners contributing to this important moment, working with artist Yu-Chen Wang to mark the anniversary in Manchester and the wider city region. Further information on the national programme, artists, and partners is available online.

How to get involved

Remember Nature 2025: Nature Remembered Walk
Led by artist Yu-Chen Wang
Tuesday 4 November 2025, 12:30pm – 3:00pm
Across Manchester city centre and Hulme (free)

Participants can take part in a slow, nature-aware, and mindful walk through Manchester led by artist Yu-Chen Wang. The group will meet at Manchester Art Gallery’s Derek Jarman Pocket Park before setting off along the canal towpath towards Castlefield, pausing briefly before continuing to Hulme Community Garden Centre.
The walk invites exploration of Manchester’s evolving landscape—its natural environment, industrial heritage, and layered histories. Along the way, participants will uncover connections between these elements, gathering stories, reflections, and ideas.

Remember Nature 2025: Nature Remembered Gathering
Tuesday 4 November 2025, 3:00pm – 5:00pm
Hulme Community Garden Centre (free)

Following the walk, attendees can gather at Hulme Community Garden Centre with artist Yu-Chen Wang, collaborators, and partners for an afternoon of creative exchange. Activities will include opportunities to ask a scientist, view pop-up presentations, and watch artists’ films. Participating organisations include Mums for Lungs, Grass Routes, and Sustainable Communities Hulme, among others. Free, warming refreshments will be provided.
Please note: if attending both the walk and the gathering, separate tickets are required due to differing capacity limits.

Remember Nature Walk from Platt Fields
Led by Jane Morris
Tuesday 4 November 2025, 10:00am – 4:00pm

Also taking place on the day, a SPARK Network-organised event initiated by artist Phil Barton will begin at Platt Fields and Hall, featuring a walk to Hulme Community Garden Centre led by local eco-activist Jane Morris.
Participants wishing to join the Nature Remembered Gathering at Hulme Community Garden Centre following this walk should book their ticket for the gathering separately.
