Prewn is the project of songwriter and producer Izzy Hagerup. Her most recent album, System, was released in 2025 via Exploding In Sound and follows her 2023 debut Through The Window. Written and recorded entirely by Hagerup, System functions as a highly personal document, shaped through solitary overnight recording sessions and guided by instinct rather than polish.
Across nine songs, System explores themes of depression, disassociation, self-reflection and the social pressures that sit beneath them. The album is intentionally imperfect in sound and structure, with Hagerup embracing an amateur, unvarnished approach to recording. Glitchy textures, sparse arrangements and shifting atmospheres create a sense of unease that runs throughout the record, while moments of humour and emotional clarity prevent it from settling into a single emotional register.
Tracks such as the title song confront cycles of mental health, industry expectation and power structures, while others, including “Dirty Dog” and “Only You”, move between disorientation and intimacy. The latter reflects on early love and uncertainty, allowing Hagerup’s voice to sit exposed against minimal instrumentation.
While System moves further into darkness than her debut, it also carries a sense of lightness and curiosity, documenting discomfort without resolving it. The album positions Prewn as an artist committed to process and emotional honesty, using songwriting as a means of inquiry rather than conclusion.
