Join Blackwell’s Manchester for the launch of Meena Kandasamy’s provocative new novel Fieldwork as a Sex Object, in conversation with Mishika Narula.
The novel follows Amrita “Amy” Chaturvedi, a self-described communist whose online life collides violently with reality when a deepfake video goes viral. Targeted by a fanatical digital mob, Amy navigates a world where social media outrage translates into real-world consequences. Blending satire, political critique and dark humour, the book interrogates power, misogyny, and the dangers of performative morality, asking readers how far they would go to defend their principles.
Fieldwork as a Sex Object is a fierce, immersive exploration of online culture, gendered violence, and the ways ideology shapes public life, drawing readers into a story that is as much about society as it is about Amy’s harrowing journey.
