Manchester Museum, in partnership with Manchester Sikh Foundation and Feed My City, will host a vibrant Vaisakhi celebration on Saturday, 19 April. This annual event honours the Sikh festival with a range of cultural activities, including the traditional Langar—a free, nourishing vegetarian meal open to all, symbolising love, equality, and compassion.
Previous celebrations have featured interactive workshops, meditation sessions, and Sikh martial arts demonstrations on Oxford Road. Details for the 2025 programme will be announced in the coming weeks, promising another engaging and immersive experience.
Vaisakhi marks the formation of the Khalsa, established in 1699 by Guru Gobind Singh Ji. It commemorates the initiation of the Panj Pyaray, the first five beloved ones who demonstrated unwavering commitment to justice, courage, and righteousness. The festival embodies the Sikh values of truth, compassion, and community, principles that will be at the heart of Manchester Museum’s celebrations.
