Manchester Animation Festival returns this November, with events taking place at HOME, Central Library and International Anthony Burgess Foundation, bringing five days of premieres, exclusive previews, studio showcases, screenings, talks, workshops and events celebrating animation from around the world.

Highlights include the UK international premiere of Mog’s Bad Thing from Lupus Films, with the creative team exploring how Judith Kerr’s beloved picture book was adapted for the screen. LAIKA makes its MAF debut with a special screening of Wildwood, alongside a behind-the-scenes look at the award-winning studio’s distinctive stop-motion craft and innovation.

DreamWorks Animation will preview the upcoming adventure-comedy Forgotten Island, while Cartoon Saloon presents the hand-drawn mermaid tale Julián. Passholders can also get an exclusive first look at Ray Gunn, the new sci-fi feature from animation legend Brad Bird, ahead of its December launch on Netflix.

The programme features artist talks, masterclasses, industry sessions, live drawing and immersive experiences, alongside a focus on Mexico in Motion, delivered with the British Council. The festival will also explore the impact of AI on animation and filmmaking, while the international feature film competition brings together new work from across the globe.

Alongside screenings and talks, audiences can explore family activities, evening socials, the Animation Nation Forum, Young Animator of the Year events and the annual festival awards ceremony. The Bridgewater Hall will host the festival marketplace, providing opportunities for animation professionals to connect with studios, recruiters and other industry talent.
