Machine Girl, the uncompromising electronic project from Matt Stephenson, return to the UK with a live show at The Ritz.
Since its beginnings in 2013, the project has expanded from Stephenson’s solo output into a full live band, with drummer Sean Kelly joining in 2015 and guitarist Lucy Caputi added in 2025.
On record, Machine Girl move between breakcore, hardcore, footwork, and noise, with releases such as The Ugly Art (2018), U-Void Synthesizer (2020), and this year’s MG Ultra and SUPER FREQ EP. Their soundtrack work for the video game Neon White showed how their high-velocity production could be adapted to new contexts, while still retaining the chaos and energy that defines their sound.
Live, Machine Girl is a different proposition altogether. Stephenson’s distorted vocals and bass are paired with Kelly’s intense drumming and Caputi’s guitar, creating a performance that blurs the line between electronic and punk. It’s music that appeals as much to fans of metal and grindcore as it does to those from the worlds of rave, industrial, and experimental club culture.
For anyone drawn to the collision of noise and rhythm, and to performances where unpredictability is part of the appeal, Machine Girl at The Ritz is set to deliver exactly that.
