This afternoon of curated performances includes poetry, singing and storytelling from local artists from Let’s Talk organisation based in Rochdale, Greater Manchester.

This project was produced by Amina Beg, a second year Drama and Film Studies student at the University of Manchester President of Spread the Word Society and Social Action Intern at Manchester Museum who facilitated poetry workshops for these women at Let’s Talk. She invited Hafsah Bashir (founder and co-director of Outside The Frame Arts) who hosted a workshop focusing on childhood and asked each performer the story and meaning of their names.

These performances are based on some of the workshops Amina and Hafsah facilitated alongside some musical performances the women are passionate about sharing.

Amina has worked alongside the founder and CEO Humera Haqqani, backbone of Let’s Talk Rochdale, whose work centralises on organising various events regarding the empowering of women, ethnic minorities and most importantly, bringing communities together.

This event gives these women a chance to perform and exist without having to justify themselves.

Head to Contact and celebrate the experiences from South Asian Muslim women.

Please note, this event is open to anyone that identifies as a woman. For any queries, please contact our box office team.
