‘KFOR and Kosova +25’ is a Photodocumentary Exhibition to mark the 25th Anniversary of KFOR in Kosova.
The first full-scale exhibition in the North West of photography produced by internationally acclaimed photojournalist Nick Sidle at the start of the KFOR intervention.
In 1999, KFOR, the NATO led international peacekeeping force, entered Kosova following resolution 1244 by the United Nations Security Council and 2024 was the 25th anniversary of that deployment. Documentary photographer Nick Sidle was embedded with several units and produced a unique record of the work of the peacekeepers showing troops from nine different countries, including nineteen individual regiments or units from the United Kingdom and the United States, the two largest contributors to KFOR. This includes soldiers drawn from the North West.
This significant photostory captures not just the work of the soldiers, it also highlights the world of Kosovo at the time from a human angle. It enables audiences beyond the country to empathise and understand a world in which intolerance had been taken to new levels and why there was a need for the peacekeeping intervention to safeguard lives and homes to help rebuild ordinary life in what were extraordinary circumstances.
This exhibition has been made possible by Heartstone who have preserved the imagery for the past 25 years, and funding from The National Lottery Heritage Fund who are kindly funding it.
