Join Blackwell’s Manchester for an evening with J. Michelle Coghlan in conversation with Monica B. Pearl, celebrating the publication of New York: A Literary Anthology.

This vivid anthology captures the energy, history and contradictions of New York City through prose and poetry. From Charles Dickens passing through Wall Street to Anaïs Nin declaring her love for the city, and from James Weldon Johnson’s hidden bars to Mark Twain’s multilingual dinner, the collection showcases the city’s diverse voices and perspectives. Contributors include Walt Whitman, Audre Lorde, Langston Hughes, Edna St. Vincent Millay, Henry James, and many others, making it a rich literary portrait of a city that never sleeps.

Part of the Macmillan Collector’s Library series, the anthology is a beautifully designed, pocket-sized book, perfect for readers and collectors alike.

J. Michelle Coghlan is a writer and academic teaching American Studies at the University of Manchester. She has lived in multiple cities, including Providence, Philadelphia, San Francisco, Paris and New York, and is the author of Sensational Internationalism and editor of The Cambridge Companion to Literature and Food. Her forthcoming book is Louise Michel in America: Rethinking Nineteenth-Century Radicalism on the Move.
