Hallé Chamber Series: John Adams Chamber Symphony

As part of the John Adams Festival, this lunchtime concert shifts focus to the composer’s witty, high-energy chamber works.

Conducted by Euan Shields, with pianists Eliza McCarthy and James McVinnie, the programme features three iconic pieces that showcase Adams’ unique blend of rhythmic complexity, humour, and drive.

Chamber Symphony fuses the structural intensity of Schoenberg with the manic spirit of vintage cartoon scores, while Hallelujah Junction and John’s Book of Alleged Dances reveal the composer’s flair for offbeat textures and inventive grooves. Performed by musicians from the Hallé and the Royal Northern College of Music, this performance brings together exceptional talent from across Manchester.
