Join Manchester Poetry Library for an evening with Jean Sprackland, celebrating the launch of her new collection Goyle, Chert, Mire.
Sprackland will be in conversation and share readings from this powerful new work.
A book-length sequence of poems, Goyle, Chert, Mire explores place, time, illness and recovery through the landscape of the Blackdown Hills, where the past and present appear to merge. The collection traces an overlapping narrative of meningitis and its cognitive aftermath, reflecting on how illness can reshape perception and memory.
Drawing on a tradition of rigorous, attentive lyricism, these poems offer a deeply felt exploration of landscape, body and mind, examining the textures of the natural world alongside personal and historical experience.
