Flautist Kathryn Williams

Empower is a special celebration of women in music and the arts by students from the Royal Northern College of Music for International Women’s Day. The event will feature music by Sally Beamish, Lili Boulanger and Valerie Coleman alongside the premieres of new works by Manchester-based composers including Alice Brooks, Emily Pederson and Emma Lambert

There will also be a panel featuring distinguished and inspiring women in the music industry including flautist Kathryn Williams, composer and Illuminate Women’s Music Director. Dr Angela Elizabeth Slater, conductor, facilitator and singer Abi Kitching and Senior Lecturer and Deputy Head of Undergraduate Programmes at the RNCM Dr Michelle Phillips

The event is free but donations are encouraged and will go to DONNE, a charitable foundation that makes a positive change in the fight against gender inequality within the music industry. Their main goal is in the same spirit of the Empower event, to celebrate, advance, and amplify women in music so that they are seen, heard, and appreciated for their talent so they can leave a legacy of inspiration for future generations.
