Join us for this evening event where you will learn how to make and take away your own jar of sauerkraut. It will also be an opportunity to meet and hear from artist and designer Joe Hartley and Matthew Pendergast (Castlefield Gallery, Curator and Head or Programmes) about our current exhibition of work co-created by Joe Hartley and the ANEW recovery community.

Learning to make homemade sauerkraut is both cost-effective and healthier than many shop bought versions. It is packed with beneficial probiotics that improve gut health helping you thrive during your time as a student in Manchester!  In the context of our current exhibition ANEW Way to Peel an Orange this simple and rewarding fermentation project is a celebration of life and new beginnings as well an opportunity to highlight the importance of caring as part of the recovery process.

RECOVERIST = recovery + activist

Castlefield Gallery is a contemporary art gallery and artist development organisation. Established in 1984, we’ve led the way in artist development for 40 years. We provide creative and career development, exhibition opportunities and commissions for artists and independent creatives. We work from our gallery in Manchester, off-site, online and in the public realm. Castlefield Gallery’s public and participation programmes provoke new ways of thinking, bringing together artists, creatives, communities and audiences to explore the art and issues of our time. We believe when artists and communities come together they can help shape a better world.
