The University of Manchester invites attendees to a special inaugural event welcoming Professor Olutayo Adesina, a newly appointed Professor of History. Professor Adesina is one of the eight recipients of the 2023/2024 British Academy Global Professorship awards, aimed at fostering collaboration between international researchers and UK universities on innovative research projects. A distinguished Fellow of the Nigerian Academy of Letters (FNAL), he was recognised for his project, “The Town and Gown Interface: Ibadan and the Decolonisation of Social Knowledge in the 20th Century,” which will be conducted at The University of Manchester over the next four years.

During the event, Olutayo will engage in conversation with David Olusoga OBE, a British-Nigerian historian, BAFTA-winning filmmaker, author, and Professor of Public History at The University of Manchester. They will discuss the significance of recent research into Black history and culture, its connection to our changing world, and the roles of history in both Nigeria and the UK.

The discussion will also explore the trajectory of Olutayo’s academic career and his upcoming work as a recipient of the prestigious British Academy Global Professorship. Following the conversation, there will be a Q&A session for the audience.
