Spanish Horses bring their sharp, modern take on rock ’n’ roll to The Abbey this August.
The five-piece have been building a reputation on the UK live circuit with a sound that blends angular post-punk, melodic indie and textured, spacey guitar music. Drawing on influences including The Velvet Underground, The Fall, Joy Division and The Pastels, their music balances immediacy with a more layered, exploratory edge.
Originally forming around a shared love of left-field guitar music, the band have quickly become associated with a new wave of UK live acts pushing rock into more experimental territory without losing its core drive. Their approach is tightly structured but open to detours—shifting between driving rhythms, jagged riffs and more atmospheric passages.
On stage, Spanish Horses lean into contrast: punchy, propulsive sections give way to looser, more expansive moments, reflecting the varied influences within the group. The result is a set that feels both grounded in classic guitar music and firmly pointed forward.
