Goatsong writer Phoebe Giannisi
BRIAN SNEEDEN

Manchester Poetry Library welcomes award-winning Greek poet Phoebe Giannisi and translator Brian Sneeden for the launch of Goatsong.

The event features a bilingual poetry performance and Q&A, celebrating a landmark work that fuses language, myth and ecology.

Spanning fifteen years of composition, Goatsong embodies Giannisi’s concept of Chimeric Poetics—an ambitious exploration of desire, mythology, motherhood and the blurred boundaries between human and animal experience. Drawing inspiration from Homer to Donna Haraway, Derrida to folk ballads, the collection establishes Giannisi as a leading feminist posthuman voice in contemporary poetry.

Translator Brian Sneeden, Senior Lecturer at Manchester Met and organiser of the Manchester Translation Series, brings his acclaimed translations to life. His work on Giannisi’s poetry has earned multiple awards and recognitions, marking Goatsong as the first poetry collection in translation published by Fitzcarraldo Editions.
