Bar Italia at Manchester Academy

Bar Italia return to Manchester Academy in support of latest album Some Like It Hot.

The record takes its title from the 1959 film starring Marilyn Monroe, Tony Curtis and Jack Lemmon, a story of rogue musicians in disguise — a parallel that feels intentional for a band who have always preferred to blur boundaries. Across its mix of lustful rockers, folk pop turns and dissonant ballads, Some Like It Hot captures the interplay between Nina Cristante, Sam Fenton and Jezmi Tarik Fehmi, each of whom brings a distinct voice and sensibility to the group.

Formed in Peckham in 2019, Bar Italia first released two albums on Dean Blunt’s World Music label before signing to Matador in 2023, where they quickly issued Tracey Denim and The Twits. The forthcoming record expands that trajectory, drawing on their different registers — Cristante’s range from honeyed to possessed, Fehmi’s shift between baritone and megaphone intensity, Fenton’s tenor that can lean soulful or spectral.

Expect music from across this catalogue, presenting a clear sense of how their three-way collaboration has evolved into a confident and unpredictable live force.
