Attacca Quartet
David Goddard

GRAMMY Award-winning ensemble Attacca Quartet makes its Manchester debut with Of All Joys, a compelling programme that spans centuries of musical innovation.

Known for their bold programming and technical brilliance, the quartet bridges Renaissance and modern repertoire in a concert that explores memory, emotion, and timeless beauty. This is one not to missed at the RNCM this September.

The evening includes John Dowland’s Flow My Tears (arranged by violist Nathan Schram), meditative works by Philip Glass and Arvo Pärt, and Shostakovich’s haunting String Quartet No. 8. The programme also features Ego flos campi by Jacobus Clemens non Papa (arranged by violinist Amy Schroeder), Anne Müller’s Drifting Circles, and music by John Bennet.

Culminating with Glass’s String Quartet No. 3 “Mishima”, adapted from his film score for the biopic of Japanese author Yukio Mishima, this is a deeply moving journey through eras and aesthetics, anchored by the quartet’s powerful and nuanced performance.

  • John Dowland, arr. Nathan Schram: Flow My Tears
  • Philip Glass: Quartet Satz
  • Arvo Pärt: Summa
  • Anne Müller, arr. Domenic Salerni: Drifting Circles
