Blackwell’s Bookshop host the Manchester launch of Malachy Tallack’s new novel, That Beautiful Atlantic Waltz. Malachy will discuss his novel with Conor Wright, perform songs featured in the book as handwritten lyrics, and sign copies afterward. Set in 1957 and the present, That Beautiful Atlantic Waltz follows two lives linked by the Shetland coast and a shared love of music. Sonny, a young whaler on a ship battling storms in the South Atlantic, returns to Shetland forever changed, with memories of the sea affecting his family and future. Decades later, Jack, now an old man in his childhood home, receives an unexpected arrival that shifts the rhythm of his solitary life. This poignant story explores unlikely friendships, the pull of home, and the healing power of music.

Tallack, one of Scotland’s acclaimed contemporary writers, has received praise from Robert Macfarlane, Will Self, and others. His previous works have been nominated for the Saltire First Book Award and the Highland Book Prize, with The Un-Discovered Islands named Illustrated Book of the Year at the 2016 Edward Stanford Travel Writing Awards.
