Join the live algorave from 6-10pm at Hatch on Friday 22nd of October.

Free, no booking required

An algorave is a combination of ‘algorithms’ and ‘rave’: the opportunity to dance to alien rhythms and freaky visuals, all created from code before your eyes.  The practice of making electronic music visible taps into algorithmic music’s long history – opened up with live coding technology over the past decade. Made with free or open-source software like TidalCycles, FoxDot and Hydra, you can download it, try it out yourself, and be part of algorave’s strong roots in the North of England.

For one night only, join some of the scene’s frontrunners to experience the human side of algorithms, with live algorave performances from:

Bad Circulation: A/v algorave stalwart Hellocatfood (Antonio Roberts) joins forces with music psychologist mxwx (Maria Witek), crafting code together to confuse you into erratic movement and pure joy

CCAI: A collaboration between drum machinist Damu and algorave instigator and creator of the TidalCycles system Yaxu (Alex McLean), building up shifting layers of fully improvised, broken techno

Heavy Lifting: This is Lucy, co-founder of the creative collective SONA, writing confused algorithmic music to create not-quite-techno rhythms

Innocent: A Yorkshire-based artist and live coding performer brings melodic synths and algorithmic beat in a live environment

Either side of the live show you can see an algorave showcase from a handpicked selection of pre-recorded algoraves from international coding performers curated by co-founder Alex McLean and Antonio Roberts.
